35950-ss-barry.jpgPrior to the Federal Election of Australia, Mr. Barry O’Farrell, who is the leader of the Liberal Party, a Member of Parliament of NSW and Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, talked about some issues concerning the Chinese community in an interview with SOH.

In regards to the continuous economic growth since 1996 when the Liberal Party was elected to the office, the inflation has been going up concurrently with the development of economy. O’Farrell expressed that the State Labor Government should be held largely accountable for this issue.

[Recording] Mr. O’Farrell said, “According to a recent survey, eighty-five thousand Chinese people who were born in China and reside in Australia, fear the returning of the white Australian policy that poses to them as a discriminatory code or inclination.

Mr. O’Farrell said that it was the Liberal Party that removed the discriminatory white Australian policy. Since then, both the Liberal Party and Labor Party had adopted policies free from racial discrimination, which benefits migrants from different parts of the world.

[Recording] Mr. O’Farrell stated that, “When being asked about his opinion on a letter sent to a Queensland State MP from a Chinese missionary in an attempt to stop Queensland MPs from attending the Human Rights Torch Relay which is being currently held in Australia, Mr. O’Farrell claimed that he had not received such a letter and nor had his peers across the bench received similar letters from the Chinese Consulate. But he thinks that any peaceful appeals or protests are allowed to continue to apply across the board, since Australia is a democratic country where basic human rights are observed.
