“ben gong steel factory” by sarcozonaOn the third of January, in order to recover their wages, several peasants from Zhengzhou City, Henan Province stopped a luxury Audi car in a street in Zhengzhou. They used two chains to lock the left wheel of the car to stop the vehicle from being moved. The peasants simply slept around the vehicle belonging to Kong Haijun, the manager of the engineering department of Longxing Company. The representative for the peasants said that they would eat and sleep around the car until the man pays them what they deserve.

Su Feng, an engineering worker, tried to negotiate his backpay with the boss of the company. But each attempt resulted in him being kicked out of the office. He is one of the protesters around the immobilised Audi.

The Longxing Company argued that they failed to pay the peasants wages because the quality of the engineering was not to their satisfaction. According to Su Feng they had already made good the problems identified, adding that quality control would have rejected the parts if there were a problem.

Many people who passed by are surprised that the company has no money to pay the peasants, given the expensive nature of the vehicle and its personalised registration plates.
