With regard to the Malawi government’s recent decision to cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan to establish links with China, a Taiwanese scholar revealed on the 18th of January that during the past six years, the Chinese Communist regime has spent 1700 000 000 US dollars in “financial diplomacy” toward Malawi. In the year 2008, as the World Health Assembly and the Beijing Olympics draws near, the Chinese Communist regime’s threats and suppression towards Taiwan’s diplomacy, as seen on the world stage, is set to become more severe.

Recently a Chinese Communist diplomat disclosed the actions of the Beijing central government in using financial lures to excavate Taiwan’s diplomatic relations and it has caused resentment from within the Chinese government. There has been doubt toward the hefty financial support being granted to overseas countries, especially while hundreds of millions of Chinese peasants live in poverty. Yet the issue is not under the scrutiny of the congress or public media, thus it is difficult to survey.
