The Forest Development Association (FDA) of the CCP held a meeting last week in Beijing that China is among countries of the most serious desertification in the world with land desertification occupying one third of its total territory. Chinese Mainland environmental expert, Tan Zuo-Ren said that the CCP is short sighted for immediate gains, leading to the land desertification that has jeopardized the nation’s survival.
Tan Zuo-Ren (recording): “Now the Government’s policies is identical to its acts in the bubble economy that is short-termed and lack of consideration on the long run.”

Tan Zuo-Ren expressed that the Communist Party aggressively pursued agricultural and economic development in the western and northern regions previously. The over-exploitation and pollution problems caused severe damage to the environment, and large areas of grasslands disappeared. The desertification also expanded to the southwest region.

According to reports, the total land desertification in China exceeds 2.63 million square kilometers, which accounts for one-third of China’s land area. Desertified land is close to 1.74 million square kilometers, occupying one-fifth of the land area. Mr. Zhang living in Urumqi said that desertification is serious in Southern Xinjiang, and Tulufan in Northern Xinjiang where farmland is disappearing.

It is reported that each year China is burdened with direct economic losses of over RMB 500 billion yuan that is derived from land desertification. Nearly 400 million people are threatened by desertification with half of the impoverished population living in these areas.
