Breaking News – Blog writers say CCP makes Olympics political
When interviewed by the Sound of Hope in Hong Kong, young writer from Sichuan province, Yunfei Ran, revealed that his blog was banned by the Chinese authorities because he published some articles criticizing the Beijing Olympics. He said, he would not rule out the possibility of launching a lawsuit for his freedom of speech. Ran is currently in Hong Kong for a short-term exchange project.
Three years ago, Ran set up his blog on Tianya website named ‘Bandit’s Talks’, publishing articles of current issues every day. His blog is one of the most popular ones on that website. On the 5th of February, he suddenly found his blog could not be visited. At 2pm on that day, he received a message from the editor of Tianya website, saying there was unchallengeable order from the authorities, but they did not give him explicit reason.
Then Ran switched his blog to another server in Hainan province, and the same thing happened.
As to the Communist government’s claim that the Olympics should not be politicised, Ran said that in fact the Communist Party itself are the ones who politicise the Olympics. He mentioned that in his opinion the Communist Party always politicises sports, he said it made use of ping-pong in its foreign affairs, it trained athletes with taxpayers’ money, took advantage of gold medals to stir up people’s nationalistic emotion to enhance the validity of its ruling and felt that it was always playing the political card.
Ran is 42 years old and a member of the Sichuan Writers’ Association. He has published over 10 books and won many awards.
