The Chinese Ministry of Education in 2008 will be adding Beijing Opera content in the music curriculum of primary and secondary schools in 10 provinces and cities, and within this release of 15 songs, most of them are the Model Operas of the “Cultural Revolution” period. This news has triggered a huge community controversy.

The Education Department of Guangdong Province also disclosed that the province will add these revolutionary theatre productions into 20 more primary and secondary schools. Experts are saying that with the inception of such bloody and violence filled opera into such an arena of young minds, it cannot be tolerated by the normal moral standards of society. They raised the issue that these “ Cultural Revolution” relics directly advocate killing and also must not be allowed to warp such young minds.
