The Global Human Rights Torch Relay has begun its leg through mainland China. 280 people from Shanghai petitioned and participated in the relay, with the hope that human rights can be enjoyed and valued in every corner of the world.

The Human Rights Torch Relay which was initiated by numerous organizations outside of China, has formally announced its entry into China, and is set to relay across the entire country. People of Shanghai have already begun the Human Rights Torch Relay, thus highlighting growing calls for a boycott to the Olympic Games, and for the Chinese Communist regime to end its human rights abuses.

Before the Chinese Communist regime obtained privileges to host the 2008 Olympic Games, it had assured the international community that it would adhere to the Olympic Charter. The Chinese Communist government promised to improve human rights records, and allow journalists to report freely on news in China. However, records to date have revealed the deteriorating situation of Human Rights in China.

People in Shanghai have expressed their concord with the Olympic Charter, which advocates human rights, democracy, compassion, and condemns persecution. The Human Rights Torch Relay will be carried out through various routes and channels, with the hope to bring peace and freedom to China.

In an open letter, 280 Chinese people from Shanghai expressed: We are in the same world, hoping for the same human rights. The Human Rights Torch Relay is making its way around the world. We welcome the Human Rights Torch in its tour around China, and welcome its entry into Shanghai. The Human Rights Torch Relay symbolizes brightness, peace, righteousness, justice, and love. Let those corrupt officials, advocates of the social class battle, and those who incite hatred within our nation be condemned!
