Breaking News – Hebei officials said: It’s alright to sacrifice the public interests for the Olympics
At present, Beijing Municipal Government is now actively constructing canals to pool four reservoirs in Hebei Province, to divert the water to Beijing Olympic competition venues in order to satisfy the water demand during Beijing Olympics in August. This makes the drought-stricken Hebei Province worse, causing farmers anguish with no water available for use to irrigate farm crops.
Hebei officials said that in order to run the Olympic Games, the village is highly cooperative. Hebei provincial officials said: “To meet the water demand during the Olympic Games does not matter for any level of sacrifices.”
According to sources from the Mainland, due to inadequate snowfall last winter, in addition to the most severe drought that occurred in Hebei Province in 11 years, Hebei Province encountered great difficulties, which left 500,000 residents facing the imminent crisis of having no drinking water resources available. Farmers indeed suffer severely, complaining that the Government does not appropriate any subsidies. Beijings Government is vigorously constructing the canal to divert the pooling of four reseviors in Hebei Province in order to show the results of a Green Olympics. During the Beijing Olympic Games, Beijing’s water consumption is expected to increase by 30% than usual at a level of 2.75 million cubic meters a day. Hebei Province, therefore, has to use water reserves by adding an additional 300 million cubic meters of water supply.
