Breaking News – Dalai Lama’s representatives hold inconclusive talks with CCP
The one-day talks between Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials and representatives of Dalai Lama ended without any agreement on resolving political unrest in Tibet.
On May 4th, the CCP’s Vice Minister of the United Front, Zhu Weiqun held a one-day meeting with Dalai Lama’s aides, Jariloudi and Gesongjianzan, in Shenzhen. Both parties agreed to make contact again if a future opportunity came up.
According to political analyst Hu Ping, the meeting could not have achieved much, as the CCP fears if Tibet is given true autonomy it would set an example for not only other minority regions, such as Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia, but also the wider Mandarin regions. If Tibetans were to rule Tibet, the administrative officials as well as legislative organs would be democratically elected while the judiciary would become independent. Which are not only the demands of the Tibetans but also of the mandarin majorities. At present, there is no way the CCP would make such a big concession.
