Breaking News – China’s virus epidemic spreads killing 26 with over 10,000 people infected
As the EV71 virus had caused the hand, foot and mouth disease outbreak in Mainland China, the epidemic continues rampantly spreading to more areas. By yesterday, the number of the infected reached 10,000 with 26 reported deaths. The two new deaths were in Guangdong and Zhejiang, and victims are young children. In addition, the foot and mouth epidemic continues towards the Olympic host city – Beijing where 1,482 infection cases were reported.
News from Guangzhou on the 6th May: Respiratory and intestinal disease in children increased in Guangzhou recently. According to statistics, at present, 1,692 cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease in Guangdong Province were reported with 3 cases of death. The infection cases rose by 767, compared to the 4th May. Shenzhen City has 518 cases reported this year. According to the Beijing Centre of Disease Control, Beijing reported a total of 1,482 cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth patients. All 18 districts and counties of Beijing have hand, foot and mouth cases, and two collective outbreaks of the epidemic were in kindergartens.
