Rights activist detained [2:14m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

A Shanghai teacher whose house was seized by Chinese Communist Party officials told a Sound Of Hope reporter in an interview that China’s human rights problem is very serious, so he fully supports the human rights torch relay.

The teacher whose penname is Chang Qing said that Shanghai police, fearing that petitioners will come out to protest and participate in activities during the Olympic torch relay in Shanghai, has already summoned them and put them under supervision.

But the petitioners, longing for the arrival of the human rights torch relay, will not be

swayed in support of human rights torch relay.

[Recording] “Our police station is also looking for me and told me not to participate

in any activity. Not allowing me from going out is a restriction of my personal

freedom, so I fully support a human rights torch relay. Those who are in need of

human rights are longing for the arrival of the torch relay. I was told that during May

I would not be allowed to go outdoor. I said to the policemem: “Are you the ones

who are breaking the law? Which code of law forbids us to petition, bans us from

receiving the human rights torch relay during this period? They are in fact now

committing a crime, breaching the law. I think deprived of one’s living space is

unreasonable and fairly cruel practice, including forceful eviction with various

entitled rights being deprived of the evicted victims, seizing the wealth of commoners.

Rights and interests of many petitioners have been deprived.”

The teacher was locked up in jail by the abuse of powers of the Attorney-General.

When he was released from prison, the housing assigned to him had been transferred

to the child of the Attorney-General, and he lost everything.

The teacher in the penname of Chang Qing also told reporters: He had met a Falun

Gong practitioner in prison, who allowed him to gain a better understanding of the

persecution of Falun Gong. He believes that the pursuit of freedom of belief is the

bestowed right of human beings, which should not be denied.
