After strong calls from Sichuan earthquake victims, the Sichuan Education Department published 5 causes behind the collapse of numerous schools. The publication attracted widespread attacks by internet users.

The May 12 earthquake in Sichuan brought down schools leaving tens of thousands of students dead under rubble. In recent days, parents have continued their protests to Government departments demanding an investigation into the “blackhand behind shoddy constructions”. With immense community pressure, the Chinese communist regime says it will investigate and handle the incidents appropriately.

However, in the 5 causes behind the collapses published by the Sichuan Education Department, there was no mention of construction quality and government responsibility. Many bloggers are angry claiming officials are trying to shirk responsibility, with one saying that “this is the most despicable, do they really think they can muddle through this like this?”

Another blogger said that until now, officials are still trying to dodge responsibility and fool the public. If these officials cant see clearly, then they need to step down.” Another said that “you need to over-estimate the intelligence of these bureaucrats, but don’t underestimate their contemptibility.” One blogger called on officials to honestly record history and collect evidence, not for the purpose of holding any one in particular responsible, but because the truth can be hidden too easily, bad deeds are covered up too easily and history can be changed to easily.”

Professor Shan Deyen from Beijing University’s School of Economics pointed out during an interview that the officials were toying with human lives when they withheld earthquake warnings.

Professor Sun Wenguang from Shandong University called for the media to report the truth, allowing the public to see clearly the root of the disaster and not to be fooled by officials.
