On the evening of June 3, Fen county in Hunan was dosed with egg-size hale amidst torrential rain and tornados. According to reports, 300,000 people across 15 townships were affected, with 1223 homes collapsed and a damage bill of $108 million yuan. The number of casualties is currently unknown

This rarely seen weather phenomenon lasted around 20 minutes and caused an estimated $85 million yuan damage to agricultural products in Fen county.

The patties around the most severely affected road into Fen county are littered with broken tree branches, with all the cotton trees stripped bare.

Taoyuan Primary school in Jingluo county has also closed due to the hale, all the classroom roofs have been ripped off and broken roof tiles cover the ground. The school is rushing ahead with repairs hoping to resume normal teaching by next Monday.
