Hu Jia denied external medical access while his wife has been sent to Fujian
The imprisonment of renowned Chinese human rights activist Hujia has been closely watched by many around the world. According to insiders, Hu’s wife, Zhen Jingyen and daughter boarded a plane under the watch of public security personnel on June fifth bound for her parent’s place in Fujian.
Zhen is currently under close watch by officials. SOH reporter who interviewed Hu’s attorney Li Fangping verified that the CCP has refused Hu’s application to access external medical attention, citing the reason is that Hu’s health condition is not yet critical. Attorney Li has expressed concerns over Hu Jia’s current situation.
Insiders say that after Hu’s mother, wife and daughter visited him at Beijing’s Chaobai prison on June fifth, his wife and daughter were then sent to Fujian after fears that she may become a focal point for foreign media during the Olympics Games. Zhen is unable to contact the outside.
Information obtained by SOH, stated that Hu is kept with other criminal offenders, and has to undergo training given by four inmates on how to stand in line, and tidy his bed. He also needs to perform tasks such as manually stitching soccer balls. Attorney Li said that despite his ill health, the CCP is still looking for reasons to deny him external medical aid, saying that he has only completed one third of his prison sentence.
Hu Jia suffers from cirrhosis, and while he can obtain some medication in prison, the poor diet has made his mother very worried that his condition will worsen without proper medical treatment. Attorney Li says that if Hu has undergone a comprehensive medical check up, his family has not seen it and are unaware of his current cirrhosis condition.
Hu Jia was arrested on November twenty seventh, two thousand and seven, on the charges of inciting to subvert state power. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment. Hu has criticised the CCP’s human rights records in online blogs, and outsiders believe that the Olympics is not only hindering the CCP’s treatment of human rights, it might actually be increasing its oppression of dissidents.

A disturbing story. Hu Jia is a prisoner of conscience and should be immediately and unconditionally released.
His jailing, after a one-day, closed-door trial, makes a mockery of China’s promises to improve human rights in the build up to hosting this year’s Olympics.
