Sixty thousand affected by rainstorm in Hunan
News on the ninth of June, stated many provinces in southern China were hit by a massive rainstorm on the eightth, including Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Hunan. Hunan in particular, has seen over sixty thousand people impacted by the storm.
The severe storm warning published today by the Meteorology Department of Anhui Province advised that several cities will see over fifty millimetres of rainfall within the next twelve hours. Mountain areas are expeced to suffer geological disasters such as mountain torrents and land slides.
According to data gathered by live rainfall monitoring systems in Zhejiang Province, from eight am on the eighth to eight am on the ninth, the heaviest rainfall was within one hundred and fifty kilometres of Kaihua in Quzhu.
Central and northern Jiangxi Province had heavy downpours in the evening of the eighth, accompanied by thunder and lightening. Weather forecasts by the local meteorology departments, state that the rainfall will continue for another two days.
From the afternoon of the eighth, cities within Hunan Province, have all experienced torrents, which are still continuing.
Up until the morning of the ninth, the severe storms have affected some six one thousand five hundred people in towns. In Hunan, one hundred thirty-eight houses have collapsed. The direct loss is estimated to be over twelve million Yuan.
