According to a report by Chinese website Hongwang, anti-corruption personnel in Dongwang city Guangdong province have said that 80% of corrupt officials in Dongwang kept mistresses and breakthroughs in investigation of corrupt officials are often achieved through tracking down these mistresses.

According to interviews with anti-corruption officials from city Prosecution Offices , the most common form of bribery was through “dry stocks”. This is achieved by government officials using their official powers to obtain private benefits for the briber, and accepting shares or money from them. One form of this is by special-relations people like wives or mistresses accepting money or dividends from the briber. This is a more prominent issue in Dongwan and is comparatively harder to investigate due to its obscure nature. This form of crime manifests through “power for sale” by government officials.
