Breaking News - Attorney Zhen Enchong under house arrest
Shanghai attorney Zhen Enchong who exposed a scandal of former Shanghai Communist Party Secretary Chen Liangyu is being kept under house arrest, according to sources on July sixth.
Shen Ting, the representative of forced evictees whose homes were illegally demolished in Shanghai’s East Eight land parcel. Said that Zhen’s personal movement and freedom has become increasingly restricted with the nearing of the Beijing Olympics. Shen said Zhen Enchong is under twenty four-hour house arrest in his home at Zabei region in Shanghai.
The Attorney has long assisted Shanghai victims of forced evictions and demolitions in legal proceedings, and in two thousand and three took Zhou Zhenyi, formerly the richest man in Shanghai, to court over disputes in the East Eight land parcel. The dispute also involved the then Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Liangyu. Zhou was arrested in March two thousand and five and was subsequently sentenced to three years imprisonment on charges of disclosing national secrets.
