ICT - Democracy advocate detained again prior to Beijing Olympics
According to recent news reports, with the Beijing Olympics fast approaching, dissidents and petitioners in various regions of China have been suppressed to varying degrees. A well-known dissident in Zhejiang, Fan Ziliang was again detained in a home raid by authorities. This has been the second time since his detention two months ago.
He was taken to Linghu Police Bureau for interrogation. Then State Security detained him until the next morning.
Fan Ziliang said, “The questions asked were identical to the ones at the last interrogation. This is an act by the regime to intimidate the public before the Olympics. It shows that the authorities tremor in terrible fear.”
Fan’s friend, Wu Gaoxin, who commemorated the June fourth Event, said that harassment before the Olympics demonstrates that the regime is very fragile and scared psychologically. Fan Ziliang simply spelled out the truth, reporting major incidents, corruption and inside stories of Huzhou City. Out of fear for any future actions during the Olympics, the authorities have taken away his personal computer in an attempt to silence him.
