According to Central News Agency reports in Taipei on July thirteenth, the China Economic Net has recently revealed the major reasons why manufacturing businesses are facing difficulties. These include escalating production costs, raw materials, and gains in the renminbi. Currently out of three hundred thousand manufacturers in Wenzhou city, approximately sixty thousand have completely or partially ceased production, of these; two thirds have officially shut down.

Media reports state many business owners feel the situation is hopeless: to stop production is to await demise, while continuing production would hasten demise.
A medium shoe factory owner by the last name Xie said, “After one season of hard work, our calculations have revealed little profit, and so we decided to sell the factory.”

However, a recent report published by the Wenzhou Shoe [Business] Association indicates that medium to large shoe enterprises, “are flourishing in both production and sales”, because of being established earlier and market transfer. It stated that the ones that had shut down were smaller enterprises.

According to reports in The Economist, the National Development and Reform Commission has not been completely open and reliable in its disclosure of statistics, with regard to the falling housing market.
Although real estate developers have attempted to implement various promotional campaigns, but demands in the market have not improved. On the contrary, the trend could spark a pricing war between companies, and lead to a general decline of property values.

The 7 protestors were aged between 30 to 40 years old, and were former employees of the Guizhou Hwangping Tobacco Factory. They used to be farmers in Hwangping and joined the factory after resumption of land by the then expanding state-owed enterprise in the 19890s. In the 1990s, the factory collapsed due to mismanagement leaving them out of work. They struggled to live after losing their land and receiving inadequate compensation. They have have appealed to the government for years with no result.

Another protestor Mr Zhang said that one of the protestors who drank pesticide is his wife who remains unconscious. Mr Zhang said no one would resort to such a measure unless they’ve run out of options.

The state owned Hwangping Tobacco Factory was established in 1975 and was one of the main national enterprises. It ceased production and shut down in 1993 after mismanagement.

According to a statement by a CCP official, the reason power shortages in the cities of Shanghai, Jiangsu, and around the Yangtze River, is because of a “gap in coal reserves”. But Taiwan businessmen familiar with the situation say that’s just deceiving common folk. The main reason for the power shortage is because of recent increases in oil price and the price of electricity being frozen for two years. The rise in coal price will cause the power plant to lose one cent per unit of electricity generated. Power plants often refuse to run at full capacity even if they have signed a contract.

The Mainland Hubei Land Bureau official, Mr Song accepted an interviewed from a Sound of Hope reporter, states 搕he downturn of the Real Estate market reflects the market’s basic supply and demand situation, and is also reflecting the shortcomings of the Chinese Communist system.�

Mr Song believes that the slump in the housing market in China is controlled by the Government under the vigorous development of the market rather than the natural result of the operation. The gap between rich and poor means the majority of people are unable to purchase a property and there is limited demand in the small number of rich people, thus making the supply and demand imbalance. The Government’s subsidies are nothing and cannot solve the fundamental problem.

He believes that the so-called subsidy is to satisfy political need and to appease the public. It cannot solve the needs of the people and cannot alleviate the deterioration of the economic bubble.

Mr Song is a senior official of the Land and Resources Bureau and believes that land registration and land and natural resource management are controlled by the country, therefore prices aren’t affected by the market. However, in recent years the corrupt officials have made a fortune, through collusion and secret operations. This is the soil of the Chinese Communist system that nourished these corrupt officials.

Phoenix Website breaking news reported that prior to the market closing, a 70 year old man yelled “beat up XXX” at the SSE, and trashed his computer. Security personnel on site sought to restrain the man, leading to the other 300 or so stockholders breaking out in conflict with security personnel. The clash left many display monitors, and computers broken.

The report also said that before the clash ended, there were up to 150 military police, with over 10 male stockholders spraying the words “if the market doesn’t rise, don’t think about reopening” on the walls of some brokers. This news report has now been taken off the Phoenix website, and postings on other websites have also been removed.

The Chinese stock market has been on a downward spiral and last week it had the biggest fall in 12 years. The index over June 16~17 was low as 2769 points, the lowest in 15 months.

According to joint surveys of Chinese official websites, 92.51% of share traders have experienced losses on the stock market, and only 4.34% have profited. This wide spread loss is rarely seen in the history of the stock exchange.

A victim told a Sound of Hope reporter [recording] “Hill landslides are everywhere, I think it’s not suitable for living, their major production here is fruit base, and theres no more now. I have no doubts that there is racial discrimination, there is Aba over Wenchuan and all are ethnic minorities. There are also many Tibetans, especially with the unrest in Tibet, they have bad opinions of Tibetans and so they do not take care of them, it is very tragic.”

Ms Chan said there are a few people left from Wenchuan seeking refuge with relatives and friends. She said that the surviving in the county are currently put together in three open areas, are living in tents, and their living conditions are very difficult.

According to the Census and Statistics from the Wenchuan County government, 16,440 acres of the farmland in the whole county has lost of 6904.8 acres, and a loss of 7891.2 acres of networks to rural roads and drinking water were damage severly, the restoration is considerable difficult. In addition there are 8594 households affected and 33,581 people in Wenchuan Counties rural areas. There are 46,678 residents and transient populations requiring urgent resettlement elsewhere.

Mr. Xiao from An County of Mianyang City told reporters that severe casualties occurred in the Mianyang mountainous area with some localities left out from relief and rescue action. According to survivors from the region, it is a living hell within the region, with all houses collapsed that has resulted in many casualties. Many wounded had died from having no medical supplies. Survivors are left to starvation with no food or water. Staving to death is likely to happen.

Mr. Fan from Tashui Township of An County told our reporter that all their houses had collapsed in the tremor, with some external transport routes being still crumpled, and communication not fully recovered. His hometown has no conditions to live for it’s survivors, and he has no choice but to go out to make a living.

Mr. Fan said: “In our localities, no relief materials have been distributed. Seventy percent of the populace work outside the area. Relief materials are almost reduced to nil when they reach commoners. You can see, there is nothing here. If I stay here, I could not make a living. Relying on the government’s petty relief, one would have died ages ago.”

Mr. Fan also visits his mother-in-law in Chaping Village, where many people have relocated to Xiaoba Township in An County and the rest of residents remain here, relying on self-aid.

As Chaping Village of An County is closely adjacent to Beichuan and Mao County (the two hardest hit regions) properties in more than 90 percent of the area were brought to the ground, resulting in heavy casualties. The way from the county to Chaping has been closed due to landslide-formed lakes that weren’t discharged until early June.

“Federation of American Scientists” (FAS) researcher Christensen revealed in his analysis of the photographs by Google Earth’s commercial satellite that the Chinese communists have a large-scale nuclear missile launch base of 58 medium-range missiles in the northern part of Qinghai Province.

Christensen said that this vast region, includes the deployment of missiles in two areas, which are located west to Delingha city and Dachaidan Township in Qinghai Province. In this vast missle deployment area of 275 km along from Delingha, passing Dachaidan, to Mahai, north to the Communists’ State Road 315 Route, a total of 58 missile launchers were found , taking up a total area of 2,000 square kilometers.

Among them is the Delhi deployment area located west to Delingha city, stretching about 52 kilometers in a wide area of 1,000 square kilometers. The district has 36 launchers, deployed along three extensions north of the main road. The three arrays of missle launchers are 16 to 20 km from one another. The detection from 2005 to 2007 of missile mission activities in the area have been very active. In addition, a number of task and missile-related facilities, including the CCP missile brigade (the Second Artillery Force) headquarters, tent-like structures, and a number of camouflaged vehicles are also found in the Delingha city centre.

Another deployment region, situated west to Dachaidan Township, stretching over 100 kilometers to Mahai, occupies a broad area of 1,100 square kilometers. The district has 22 launchers, deployed along the main road towards the north.

Christensen said that the 58 missile launchers have four basic design styles, which are 70 meters in diameter and are circular, 40-meter T-type, 15 to 45 meters rectangular shaped, and 30 meters long brochure style. The launchers are capable of reaching southern Russia and northern India (including New Delhi), but unable to reach Japan, Taiwan and Guam.

Recent explanations given by the Sichuan Department of Education have been met with criticism from academic experts. Guo said, “The government cannot neglect its people. You must take these matters seriously and resolve them. You must acknowledge and admit the problems, you cannot deny them. You cannot fail to admit your corruption, you cannot fail to admit your bean curd construction.”

With regard to donation budgets, Guo Yongfeng feels that charitable organizations in China today, are comparable to a line of business completely monopolized by the government. He expressed, since the people have applied their trust in the government by depositing donations directly into the state bank account, the government should return with a clear indication of how the money has been used. If the government cannot realize a transparent and truthful donation fund management scheme, they would lose trust from the general public. Thus the people of China must interrogate for responsibilities.

With whether the government can respond positively to the interrogations from ordinary citizens, Guo Yongfeng expressed an anticipation of nil. However, Guo said if the number of people who stand up and demand explanations from the government can increase into the millions, there would be a positive step toward the change in China’s political system, into one that reflects the voices of Chinese citizens.
