On December 23rd, a murder took place at the Huanghe Project Hydrology Department in Inner Mongolia. The director of the Bureau was knifed to death by an employee. The head of Human Resources was also injured.

Hebei officials have secretly banned the sale of crown pears developed by the Shijiazhuang Fruit Research Institute, after the toxic milk scare in September. On December 19th family members of Guo Quan, a human rights campaigner from Nanjing city, received notice of Guo’s arrest from the People’s Procuratorate Office. Guo’s mother and wife feel powerless as the authorities won’t allow Guo any legal representation, saying the case involves state secrets.

Shanghai farmers protest illegal land-grabbing and construction

A Beijing rights defender who had drawn the concern of the international community after being evicted from her home was tried and sentenced to two years imprisonment on December 18.
