Parents of 127 dead students said at the scene that although Jiang Guohua kneeled down to them, they will not stop protest marches and asked to meet with senior government officials for investigating quality problems of the caved-in buildings during the tremor.
Teaching building of Fuxin No. 2 Primary of Wufu Township in Mianzhu City collapsed in the quake, killing at least 127 students. Sources disclosed that the teaching building was built in 1989 and was classified as a dangerous building in 1996, but the authorities had not taken measures.

Faced with people in the procession, Mianzhu City Party Secretary Jiang Guohua strongly suggested parents not to march to Deyang to appeal. When the parade reached Mianzhu Central Square, Jiang Guohua suddenly kneeled down next to the contingent, waved hands to parents, pleaing for their trust in the ability of Mianzhou City Party Committee to investigate the quality of school buildings, and promised answers. On Saturday, parents of students in Fuxin No. 2 Primary School roared at the deputy secretary of Mianzhu City Party Committee: “Liar!”, for she failed to mentioned the 127 children killed in the tremor when she wrote the casualty report on Fuxin No. 2 Primary.
