“China Civil Baodiao Federation” issued an open letter to the Central Military Commission over its website lately. Soonafter the website was closed by the authorities. Participants involved in the activity hold that issuance of an open letter should not be regarded as illegal dissemination of information.
A person surnamed Li said that from the perspective of the Baodiao Association, the Chinese Communist authorities should explicitly announce its sound reason for closing down the website. What we did is for the country and the nation. Yet, the government interdicts us from airing our voice, which shows the regime has problems.

A person from Baodiao Association said, an “open letter to the Central Military Commission” is not “illegal information”, for there is not a single sentence or any remarks against the Party, or anti-government quotes in the open letter. They will continue to protest, and consider solving the problem through legal channels until the matter has reasonable results.

Liu Xiaozhu, a commentator on China’s current affairs said that the CCP should not suppress different views from within the Mainland. In any country it is unlikely that there is only one opinion, and expressing different views is quite natural. Closing down the website proved that the Communist regime harbours hidden intentions.

It is known that the gist of the “open letter to the Central Military Commission” is a request to the Central Military Commission to mobilize navy and air Forces to facilitate Baodiao action. The open letter also said that to give up Baodiao is equivalent to abandoning the common security of the Mainland and Taiwan. Currently, it is taboo to reach any agreement with Japan over the China Sea issue, or else, it would lead to the loss of territorial sovereignty, accelerating the separation of Taiwan, which would eventually result in the collapse of the Communist regime.

People from The Baodiao Association questioned the Communist regime: “the open letter to the Central Military” reflects civil voices in the normal way. We wonder which provision of the law the open letter had violated.”

The intestinal virus EV71 that is increasing its hold in China and manifesting as human foot and mouth disease has been classified by the CCP’s Ministry of Health as an official infectious disease. Anhui province’s Ministry of Health announced on May 3rd that its 15 cities, excluding Chizhou and Tongling, have reported a total of 4529 cases of infection, with 22 fatalities in just the first days of May.
The CCP’s Ministry of Health’s report confirmed on April 23 that the source of this outbreak is the EV71 virus. This virus had caused 78 deaths in Taiwan in 1998, and this year there has been an increase in reported cases in Singapore and Taiwan. In China, provinces outside of Anhui have also reported increased cases of foot and mouth disease compared to previous years.

Infections have been reported in Zhejiang, Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong. Since the first death was reported on April 25, a second case was discovered the day after. Also, in Xiaxi province, there have been 137 cases of reported infections up to May 3.

Chinese media have criticised local authorities, as 5 cases of identical symptoms were first reported in early March in Fuyang city. The patients were all under 6, mostly under 2 years old. Most of those infected residing in the village died between March 27 and 29. Faced with an unknown disease such as this, local government announced on April 15 that the deaths were not related, and kindergartens requested children to return to school, resulting in the current widespread infection.
<itunes:summary>The intestinal virus EV71 that is increasing its hold in China and manifesting as human foot and mouth disease has been classified by the CCP’s Ministry of Health as an official infectious disease.

These two finales in Taiwan have gathered people from all walks of life to share in the cultural feast. Audiences who attended these shows include those from the political circles, arts and cultural sector, the financial sector, academic sector and representatives of public servants.

March the 20th also happened to coincide with the two parties’ election activities held in Chiayi before Taiwan’s presidential election. Even this did not dampen the people’s enthusiasm for the Spectacular.

The National Chung Cheng University vice principal and the deputy magistrate of Yunlin County also attended the performance in an official capacity and expressed their heartfelt thanks for the arrival of Divine Performing Arts and their contributions to the Chinese traditional culture.

The University of Chicago and National Chung Cheng University mathematics President, Dr. Wu Zhi-yang, expressed his fascination with the dancers:

“I was fascinated with the drums, the last special program, he said, I was sitting in the front row and felt its strong power. It was said this has been performed from ancient to the modern times, which is really unique and is very rare in Taiwan. I think the program with the most shock value for me is vocalist in the last program, he has a deep and rich voice and the lyrics he sang were really moving.”

Chiayi County Deputy Director of Education Xiu-Long said:

”When I was watching the show, I was totally immersed into the scenes, and I felt very happy and imbued with energy. I loved the feeling I received during the scene of the deities descending into the world. The dancers seemed have endless energy and every movement was both delicate and forceful.”

The twenty-two performances by the Divine Performing Arts of New York have been showcased in the five cities including Taipei, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung in a tour that has lasted 17 days.

On March the 12th, the fifth performance of the Divine Performing Arts of New York will be performed in Zhongxing University in Taizhong Huisun. Many audiences made special trips from Taidong, Hualien, Gaoxiong, Yunlin and Miaoli, just to see the Divine Performing Arts performance.

The audience responded with enthusiastic applause end of the last performance, drawing a satisfactory conclusion for the series of performances. The main performers appeared at curtain call to give thanks to the audience. As the hosts of the performance, Carey and Tang Rui also bid farewell to the audience under the warm atmosphere, and stated that they will return next year to Taizhong. This concludes a satisfactory ending for the series of five performances.

Consultant Wen Jianhui attended the show with his wife. After witnessing the performance of Divine Performing Arts he made the following comments:

“They have introduced such an excellent program here, and it is purely a Chinese style, with the traditional combination of music, art and dance, they have also demonstrated some basic martial arts skills, all of it was very well performed in a group context. The performance was very positive to the community and I hope more people would have the opportunity to enjoy such good programs.”

Su Zhifun is a magistrate of the Yun lin County, she was invited to attend the performance. She thought the performance brought inner peace to the audience and was pleased to have spent a relaxing night watching such a world class program. Here’s what she had to say:

“You can feel the harmony and beauty within their dance. I believe the performance gave the audience an opportunity to pursue a more spiritual realm, and because this kind of program can benefit people greatly, it should be performed more often.”

Chen Shilong, a general manager of Shennong Food Development Company came to attend the show with over 100 of his colleagues. He made the following statement:

“I had driven for over six hour from Taidong because I had missed the performances in Gaoxiong and Tainan. This is the last performance so I had to make it to this one at all costs! My colleagues from Miaoli had booked two coaches to come here. I was very touched after seeing it. This my first time to such a performance, and it really seemed to have captured the essence of the Chinese culture.”

The chairman of Longbao construction company, Lili Zhang, said the following:

“It is very difficult to have people maintain the principles of Truthfulness and Compassion in everyday life. I think our society needs to be reminded of them constantly. The program, “The Awakening” was a shock to me because I strongly believe that there are too many people who are reluctant to help when they see evil in everyday life, and because of this, these evil forces continue to perform wrongdoings.”

After the performance of Divine Performing Arts concluded in Taizhong, it will hold a further six performances at the Taipei International Convention Centre.

While the two sessions are being held, The China Blue-Ribbon Alliance in Mainland China that believes in the Three People’s Principles issued an open letter on the Internet, urging the authorities to promulgate law on political parties, and on March 6 they sent letters to the National People’s Congress and the CPPCC, the Office of the CCP’s Central Committee and the State Council. Democratic parties and the leftists have supported the demand.

A member of China Blue-Ribbon Alliance Chongqing Branch, Zhang said: the prerequisite to eliminate bans on Parties is to first have a law in place for political parties promulgated to reflect Hu Jintao’s commitments.

In addition, the China Blue-Ribbon Alliance sent emails on 5th March to the National People’s Congress, putting forward five proposals:

The Mainland should immediately halt the suppression of Taiwan’s international space, and solve the common international affairs of China via consultations and dialogues;

Mainland Government should draft a “political party law” regulating the activities of political parties. In the form of legislation to establish the status, the relationship, rights and obligations of various political parties as well as organizational procedures;

Modestly learn from Taiwan’s democratisation experience, and strive to narrow the political gap of the Strait as well as abolition of the secret agencies, and the release of political prisoners. … ..

The China Blue Ribbon Alliance said in an open letter that according to Hu Jintao, if Taiwan recognizes one China, the two sides can negotiate, but the statement does not have legal framework.

Only “the promulgation of law on political parties” can bring about the possibility to establish consultations on an equal footing of the” cross-strait political parties.

A China Democratic Party member of Zhejiang, Wang Rong-qing expressed support for these demands by the China Blue Ribbon Proposal. He said: there is no legislation in party politics, which allows the Communist Party do whatever it wants, they are always right whatever they do. What then if the CCP’s next leader could revoke Hu Jintao’s saying? So it has to be codified in the form of law.

Having served as a subordinate of Jiang Qing during the Cultural Revolution, and the former Chief of the Revolutionary Committee of Chongqing, Huang also concurs with the proposal. He said: “The government officials do not abide by the law and their law is just to rule the ordinary people. So we need officials to comply with the law. China is so corrupt, as government officials do not respect laws. ”

<itunes:summary>While the two sessions are being held, The China Blue-Ribbon Alliance in Mainland China that believes in the Three People’s Principles issued an open letter on the Internet, urging the authorities to promulgate law on political parties, and on March 6 they sent letters to the National People’s Congress and the CPPCC, the Office of the CCP’s Central Committee and the State Council.
The Devine Performing Arts troupe of New York again has once again delighted audiences in their final performance in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. A number of politicians and dancers within the audience were especially touched by the genuine Chinese culture portrayed by the Spectacular and were also amazed by the elegance and beauty of the performances.

Wu Yuhui is a Sector Chief of Kaohsiung City Government’s Bureau of Social Affairs. “I think that they’re performance is…too amazing, he says, from the expressions on their faces of happiness, delight and peace as well as the feeling of pure femininity…they portray this from their respect of the heavens. I can feel this in each of the dance sequences, he goes on to say, it is very touching, they really wanted to express and promote the uniqueness of the Chinese culture which is firmly based upon respect of the heavens.”

Legislator Wu Jingshi from Pingdong County says “I liked all of the programs. The traditional classical dancing brings about such beauty.
All of the stories told were very explained so deeply. I really really enjoyed it.”

Legislator Wu said that she will not only tell her friends and family about the Devine Performing Arts Spectacular, she will also tell those people in her electorate who visits her office.

Head of Kaohsiung dance Association Madam Hung Huishao commented, “it was choreographed so well, it was very grand, from the dance perspective, it was just such a pleasure to watch, you can say…well, it’s like an enjoyable feast of dances.”

The Devine Performing Arts of New York has concluded its 5 day stay in Kaohsiung. On March 9th it will begin its performances in Taizhong city.

According to organisers of the Chinese Spectacular in Taiwan, the recommendations of audiences who have seen the show means that the ticket organisers in Kaohsiung are run off their feet and have had to increase seating availability to meet demands. The organisers are reminding people to reserve their seats for the up coming performances in Taizhong, Taipei and Jiayi as there are only a few tickets left.

Taiwan Upsets China Over Kosovo

Rowan Callick, China correspondent

TAIWAN has rushed to be among the first countries to recognise Kosovo, irritating China and hoping to pick up a rare diplomatic coup in Europe, where its only other partner is the Vatican.

China, like other countries with fractious potential breakaway areas – including Tibet, and Xinjiang in the northwest – is trenchantly opposed to Kosovo’s declaration of independence.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said: “China is deeply worried about its severe and negative impact on peace and stability of the Balkan region and the goal of establishing a multi-ethnic society in Kosovo.”

China’s position on Taiwan recognising Kosovo is “quite clear to everybody”, he said.

“Taiwan is a part of China and has no right or eligibility to give so-called recognition.”

Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said: “Despite a multitude of barriers, the people of Kosovo have insisted on an ideal that they believe in, which is to peacefully pursue independence, without being threatened or scared away.

“Self-determination is a right recognised by the United Nations. In no way should the independence of one nation be denied by another.”

Su Tseng-chang, a vice-presidential candidate for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party at Taiwan’s presidential election on March 22, and a former prime minister, said Taiwan was better equipped for independence, and had more justification, than Kosovo.

“Taiwan, the hard-built ship of democracy with a polished deck, should never be sailed into another country’s harbour,” he said.

Taiwan’s governing DPP, trailing in the polls, is eager to engage China on such issues and to drag Beijing in to a war of words that it believes would gain it votes.

So far, Beijing has carefully avoided exciting voter opposition in Taiwan, where its preferred candidate, Ma Ying-jeou, the leader of the Kuomintang (KMT, or Nationalist) party, is well positioned to win power – following a landslide KMT victory at parliamentary elections last month.

Kosovo has presented China with a tough challenge, which it cannot comfortably avoid.

With regard to the Malawi government’s recent decision to cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan to establish links with China, a Taiwanese scholar revealed on the 18th of January that during the past six years, the Chinese Communist regime has spent 1700 000 000 US dollars in “financial diplomacy” toward Malawi. In the year 2008, as the World Health Assembly and the Beijing Olympics draws near, the Chinese Communist regime’s threats and suppression towards Taiwan’s diplomacy, as seen on the world stage, is set to become more severe.

Recently a Chinese Communist diplomat disclosed the actions of the Beijing central government in using financial lures to excavate Taiwan’s diplomatic relations and it has caused resentment from within the Chinese government. There has been doubt toward the hefty financial support being granted to overseas countries, especially while hundreds of millions of Chinese peasants live in poverty. Yet the issue is not under the scrutiny of the congress or public media, thus it is difficult to survey.

The above news is brought to you by (narrator) for Breaking News on SOH Radio Network.

<itunes:summary>With regard to the Malawi government’s recent decision to cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan to establish links with China, a Taiwanese scholar revealed on the 18th of January that during the past six years, the Chinese Communist regime has spent 1700 000 000 US dollars in “financial diplomacy” toward Malawi.

Last week a fifty years old farmer, Hao Jinan, from China’s Henan province, left the jail where he was held for nearly 10 years on false charges.

At the beginning of 1998, Hao Jinan was a suspect in a robbery and murder case. He confessed under inquisition by torture, and was sentenced to death with a postponed execution.

He was finally released one year after the police arrested the real killer.

While in jail, Hao Jinan unknowingly underwent surgery. Not until several days ago, after his release, and after undergoing a health check-up in a hospital that he was told by the doctor that his spleen had been removed.

In news just in from China’s Hubei Province, on the 28th December, nearly 100 workers of the Wuhan city vacuum factory blocked the road outside the factory to protest against the authorities forcefully relocating them and demolishing their houses before any agreement for relocation was signed.

So far, more than 50 households have lost their homes, and another 30 more families are facing the same fate.

We are awaiting news on the outcomes of the protests which are becoming commonplace in many rural communities in China.

********************

And now for SOH original news direct from China

Over one thousand residents of the Gold Bull District in China’s Cheng-Du City have been protesting outside the Long Chang Company complex for six days, demanding the return of assets that they believed were collectively owned.

According to a report over the web page of Daily Life Observation, due to the city planning and construction expansion in Cheng-Du, the rural construction system in the Golden Bull area was raised in 1996 with all households registries changed to urban residents.

Hu Jia, a prominent AIDS and human rights campaigner has been detained by Chinese police accusing him of subversion, in an apparent bid to stifle dissent ahead of the 2008 Olympics.

Attorney Teng Biao said that Mr. Jia was taken into police custody on Thursday, adding that Hu’s wife, AIDS activist Zeng Jinyan, has been prevented by police from leaving the couple’s Beijing home.

Zeng Jinyan said in an e-mail that Hu had been arrested on charges of “inciting to subvert the government”.

By 2017 Beijing will allow the special region’s people of Hong Kong to directly elect their leader and their legislators by 2020, as promised by Hong Kong’s chief executive.

Donald Tsang said the decision was a “most important step” in the political future of the former British colony, which became part of China in 1997.

The move comes after Mr. Tsang submitted a report requesting elections by 2012.

Hong Kong’s leader is chosen currently by an 800-member committee.

The authorities in Shenzhen, Guangdong province in China have forcibly evicted and dismantled the resident’s private properties.

This has triggered massive clashes with the police, who have been using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the residents who are refusing to leave.

Some of the protestors have been arrested and nearly a hundred residents broke into the police station to release those who have been arrested.

Hong Kong “Sun Press” reported on the 28th of December that the authorities dismantled the properties at Liu Yue Village and Heng Gang Road in Long Gang Area.

According to sources, the compensation for the eviction is yet to be settled in court of law, whilst residents’ properties are already being dismantled.

********************

A mainland Chinese Falun Gong practitioner has revealed to the media that the Chinese Communist prison system has been over working imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners, killing many in the process.

Many have died from mining accidents, and others have suffered permanent disabilities and blindness.

He said that during his six-year imprisonment he’d seen practitioners, between the ages of 30 and 70, being beaten and even killed, if they did not meet minimum production requirements.

Collusion among the prison, forensics and medical systems have deceived families of the Falun Gong practitioners’ to make illegal profits.

Although practitioners in Mainland China have been brutally persecuted under strict information control and censorship, facts of the persecution continue to penetrate overseas through different channels.

***************************************

In the lead up to elections in Taiwan, the Country’s parliament has passed its most extensive arms budget in years, as lawmakers strive to appear firm on national defence issues.

The 2008 defence budget, passed by the legislature last Thursday, includes funds for the controversial Hsiung Feng IIE cruise missile, a missile that can strike China.

Analysts say legislative elections in January and a presidential poll in March are shaping up as a contest over a Taiwan identity separate from rival China, which has claimed sovereignty over the island since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949, and which has said that any attempts by Taiwan to become independent could result in war.

The death bed, a torture method originating from Jilin Prison, is frequently used to torture imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners at the Jilin Prison and Jilin Province Women’s Prison in Changchun City. Many Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death this way.

According to a Clearwisdom.net report on December the 11th, 2007, the death bed involves piecing together two twin-size beds and handcuffing or tying a practitioner’s hands and feet onto the four opposite corners of the two beds. After the practitioner is tied up, the beds are moved in opposite directions and bricks are inserted between the two beds. Each brick adds severe pain and injury.

Once tied to the death bed, the victim is unable to move her hands and legs. The beds can be pulled in various directions to cause additional pain and injury throughout the body.
