On the twenty first of June, although the Lhasa situation was “basically stable”, Tibetan authorities completed the Olympic torch relay with the city besieged under heavy guard. The original route had been shortened in a three-hour journey, to arrive at the destination in less than two hours.

After the relay torch ended, a melt-fire ceremony was held in the Potala Palace, that is, to merge the torch fire from the torch relay transmission and the torch fire at the top of Mount Qomolangma into one. A number of outstanding media workers from Southern Urban Press were was shocked by the dismissal of Chang Ping. To defend press freedom and protest against the suppression of speech, staff of Southern Urban Press Group recently launched a petition to plead for the stay of Chang Ping.

According to political analyst Hu Ping, the meeting could not have achieved much, as the CCP fears if Tibet is given true autonomy it would set an example for not only other minority regions, such as Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia, but also the wider Mandarin regions. If Tibetans were to rule Tibet, the administrative officials as well as legislative organs would be democratically elected while the judiciary would become independent. Which are not only the demands of the Tibetans but also of the mandarin majorities. At present, there is no way the CCP would make such a big concession.

A Chinese person of Han race, who originally opposed the Dalai Lama and Tibetan independence, and also did not believe the Western media reports, returned from the Tibetan area, expressing that reports by overseas media have not wronged the CCP, on the contrary, they reported only 1% of the CCP’s evil conducts. He also stressed that the Chinese military and armed police who occupied the temples and expelled monks, treat Tibetans brutally and ruthlessly, which greatly shocked and disgusted him. He said that the outside world could not imagine the situation over there.

Following the suicide of Song Tu, a monk from the Gede Monastery, in Ngawa county, Ganzi of Sichuan Province on the 16th of April, the Norwegian Sound of Hope Radio Network reported on a Tibetan Buddhist nun who chose to commit suicide, after bearing extremes of the suppression.

The Chinese Communist regime has forcibly divulged “Patriotic education on Tibetan monks, and forced the Party’s flag to be hung highly at the roof of every temple building. The “Patriotic education” policy has a demand for every monk to kneel beneath the flag, and to be sworn in for their separation from the Dalai Lama. Moreover, every monk of the monastery had to be photographed while holding a CCP flag. This has been met with much resentment and noncooperation.

Additionally, military police continue to besiege and harass Tibetan temples. At least eight monks have been arrested from the Dacang Lamu Gede Temple, Senduo Temple, as well as Duique Village, in Ruogai County of Ngawa sub-prefecture. The youngest of those under arrest was 14 years of age. On the 19th of April, approximately 190 monks secretly escaped to the mountains, from the Dacang Lamu Gede Temple. Currently the entire Ngawa sub-prefecture remains under the strict surveillance of the CCP military police force.

On the 17th of April, Chinese Communist military police captured eight monks from the Nalanduo Temple in Tibet’s Linzhou County. Aside from these incidents, CCP army troops also arrested 32 monks in recent days, from the Xicang Temple in Luqu County of Gannan sub-prefecture.

To date, CCP military police have arrested more than 203 monks from the Zhaxi Qukuo Temple, in Duoke village, Zhuoni County of the Gannan sub-prefecture. The Chinese Communist state has also transferred special troops in black military uniform from Henan, to stand guard at Tibet’s Anduo Regong region, while adopting more rigorous means of surveillance and persecution.

Many local farmers have indicated they would refuse to farm agricultural land, if the Chinese Communist government does not cease the persecution on Tibetan people,

Reportedly, ordeals in Tibet have recently sparked public resentment against Wang Qianyuan, Jia Lefu and CNN, thus the Chinese Communist state is seeking to suppress them.

News reports have indicated that the Chinese Communist regime has demanded for Internet corporates in China to delete ‘extreme’ blog messages, such as Wang Qianyuan’s message, “The negative effects brought about by words and actions have nearly caught up to the violent thugs in Lhasa. Why are they not brought to justice? She must be sentenced to life, or at least 10 years imprisonment.”

Yet with regard to this issue, Wang Qianyuan who is currently in the US has commented, “I would not criticize a fellow countryman in this manner. Heavens, that’s too terrible.” She also criticized the Beijing government’s foolishness for degrading its own image through putting herself on the CCTV website.

According to Professor Wang Lingzhi from the University of California, Berkely, within the current wave of anti-CNN sentiments, it’s targeted against the ideologies of democracy and freedom in Western countries. Professor Wang expressed concerns that the overseas forces against the Chinese Communist regime, on top of notions of nationalism among people in China, will put brakes on China’s development, or even close the doors which had once been opened to the international community.

Professor Wang Zhiling had submitted articles to Xinhua News Agency, to express his opinions with regard to the Olympic Torch. However, contents of the published article were twisted from original meanings, and any requests for correction were refused.

Earlier this month Tibet officials once claimed that the entire local tourism market will be re-open on May 1, and welcome overseas tourism visitors to Lhasa. However, the recent situation had a sudden turn. Apart from that delayed reception promised to overseas tourists, large-scale arrests of monks launched last week. Now local travel agencies are not allowed to receive tourism groups from other provinces of the Mainland. Only mainland FIT (free and independent tourists) are allowed to enter Lhasa, but they will be required to undergo police checkings and questionings along the way.

A tour guide from Lhasa disclosed this new situation: “The tourists from within the Mainland are now banned from entering Tibet. “The Permit for Entering Tibet” has been stopped now, and no one is allowed to enter Tibet, which means, there is no foreign tourism in Lhasa. If from within the Mainland, it is possible that they might be in the FIT.”

It is reported that since March 14, the Tibetan people’s protest actions launched in Lhasa had been under armed suppression. The authorities stopped issuing “the Permit to enter Tibet” in late March for foreigners. But lately, the authorities expanded the restricted scope to the urban areas of Lhasa and the important junctions in Lhasa with the armed police setting up layers and layers of checking posts.

As for the current situation in Lhasa, the Tibetan Women Writer Weise wrote in her blog on Sunday that recently in Lhasa the various entertainment places such as dance halls, nightclubs, karaoke rooms, restaurants, bath centres, foot shops, beauty salons Shops continue to operate and the sex industry is also continuing. But Tibetans Langma Halls where mainly Tibetan songs and dances are performed have not been allowed to re-open to customers, fearing Tibetans will gather into crowds to make trouble.

In the streets of Lhasa, tourist spots that are enjoyed most at home and abroad such as the old style of the Potala Palace, the venues for purchasing Tibetan handicrafts, photo-taking outside the Jokhang Temple and other scenes no longer exist.

Wang’s parent’s family home in Qingdao has had faeces thrown at their gate. The corridors around their home have been plastered with horrific slogans and their windows smashed. Due to this unbearable treatment, Wang’s parents have had no option but to leave their family home.

A Chinese official working in Lhasa has confirmed in interview that, the Tibetans on the trains to Xi’ning or on long-distance coaches have to be searched by police. The official said that the main purpose of the search was to find if they had any weapons, knifes or guns. It is also reported that, at Lhasa train station, some rooms were used as temporary prison cells and some arrested Tibetans have been taken to prisons in the northwest by train.

According to sources, Lingque Temple situated in Daofu County, Ganzi of Kang District, Sichuan Province was raided by a large number of military soliders deployed by the Communist authorities to stop the ongoing Buddhist activities being held in the monastary, triggering over a thousand local monks, commoners and students protests.

Protesters shouted [Long live the Dalai Lama], [Free Tibet], [we want freedom], [Let Dalai Lama return home] and other slogans. The Communists-deployed police force opened fire to suppress protesters, resulting in 10 people being wounded by gunshots. Five of them were critically injured, and several are missing. Currently, the contact with Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Daofu County, Ganzi Prefecture and Luhuo County are beyond reach by phone.

It was also reported that fearing the further escalation of Ganzi Tibetan protest activities, the Chinese communist authorities mobilized additional troops to Ganzi Prefecture since last week. A number of local hotels are packed with armed forces. A hotel attendant in Ganzi County said: “Our hotel is booked in full by the armed forces.” “These soldiers have to stay till September when the Olympic Game finishes.”

According to the “Tibetan Unity Committee”, the latest statistics obtained by Tibets Government-in-exile showed, eight monks died in the recent shooting by China’s military suppression in Sichuan and the two who could not stand the torture died of suicide. Since March 10 at least 154 people had been killed by the Chinese Communist soldiers and over 2,300 people were arrested, and may be subject to severe torture. The situation is worrisome.
