During the two congresses either regional or central in China, rights advocates all over China have been suppressed, especially in Shanghai, the most severely suppressed. Northeast rights advocate Kong Qiang recently issued a seventh open letter, urging the authorities to bring Jiang’s nephew Wu Zhiming to justice. The proposal has won the support of people.

Kong Qiang proposed in his open letter to set up a special court at the National People’s Congress to put Jiang Zemin and his clan including Chen Liang-Yu, Wu Zhi-Ming and Jiang Jin-Heng to trial. He especially wanted to start with Jiang Ze-Min’s nephew, the former Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Political and Law Committee, Wu Zhi-Ming who ordered to persecute human rights lawyer Zheng En-Chong for exposing the corrupt Shanghai officials.

Kong Qiang said: “Now the remaining members of Jiang’s clan still exist in all parts of the country, including those in the central government departments who are persecuting Mainland commoners. You must bring Jiang to justice via the court of law.”

The former Shanghai police officer Zhang Bao-Liang who has been put under house arrest for exposing the corruption of Shanghai officials expressed his support to Kong’s proposal in order to dissolve the corruptions in China. Zhang’s 80 year-old mother fell ill due to severe intimidation by the authorites.

Zhang Bao-Liang: “So far this corruption can not be resolved, I strongly support Kong-qiang, strongly urge the State Council to set up a special court to put the bandit groups to trial and return Chinese people to a society ruled by law.”

Heilongjiang petitioner Mr. Chen said that corruption started increasing since Jiang Ze-Min assumed office, causing countless people injustice. The gory debts must be met with punishment by law.

Mr. Chen said, “so why is China so corrupted? During Jiang Ze-Min’s governance, what did he accomplish but to corrupt the country and to anguish people? If he was not corrupted, how come there are so many trumped-up cases?”

Guangdong veteran Mr. Zeng said that military groups safeguarding their rights have been suppressed for many years, and they have given up hopes. Finally, someone dares to speak out and they all support bringing the culprit who violates the rights and interests of people to justice.

The founder of a rights website “Chinese Appeal for Justice” Kong Qiang, responding to the difficulties the Chinese people have in defending their rights, have issued seven open letters consecutively, urging the actions of the authorites to punish corruption and to bring Jiang’s clan to justice.

At 8:30 on February 19, Chun-Lin Yang was on trial at the Jiamusi City Intermediate People’s Court in Heilongjiang Province. Yang Chun-Lin acquitted in court defending himself. The judge said that the verdict would be announced after further discussion with the Provincial Party Committee on another day.

Yang Chun-Lin’s sister, Yang Chun-Ping told an SOH reporter in an interview: “My brother will be sentenced based on his campaign “Human Rights but not the Olympics.” IOC President Jacques Rogge said, “the Olympic Games is not a political arena,” then, why will my brother be sentenced when he raised the issues related to the Olympic Games? My brother also said in court today that the Chinese people cannot afford meals and schooling, then why have you (the authority) put tens of billions into the Olympics? Since you have this ability, why not consider the ordinary Chinese people.”

She added: Another lost-land farmer Yu Chang-Wu was sentenced to a year and a half imprisonment at a forced labour camp for supporting the campaign “Human Rights but not the Olympics”. The government’s response had perished with the Chinese commoners’ hopes for appeals to authorities. Yang’s sister said that Yang Chun-Lin has no intention to appeal, for he has lost confidence in China’s law and judiciary system.

Li Fang-Ping, the defending counsel for Yang Chun-Lin said at the end of the court session that Yang Chun-Lin thinks that one should not be punished for holding and airing one’s different opinion or ideology over the state system.

Fujin’s local government of Heilongjiang Province has seized farmers land for over 10 years while Fujin farmers have been persecuted for their appeals, and the situation is deteriorating. In June 2007 Yang Chun-Lin proposed the campaign “Human rights but not Olympics”, exposing many layers of the inside story on the land seizure by the officials, demanding a thorough investigation into the land seizing case that eventually reached many mainstream media at home and abroad, as well as the concerns of human rights groups. Yang Chun-Lin also solicited the signatures of over 10,000 people for the campaign of ‘Human Rights but not the Olympic Games’. The letter of appeal with the joint petition had been submitted to the IOC and UN Human Rights Organization via Pan Qing, the contact for the National Alliance against the Despotic Rule of the Communist regime. Yang Chun-Lin has been detained for seven months and may face felony penalties.

Since Yu Chang-Wu, the rights representative of lost-land farmers in Heilongjiang Province was sentenced to two years ‘reformation’ at a forced labour camp, another rights representative, Wang Gui-Lin was set for a trial on 29th January. In addition another court hearing for rights representative Yang Chun-Lin, whose trial was originally planned for 29th January, had been re-scheduled for after the Lunar New Year. Rights representative Yang Chun-Lin, a former worker of Jiamusi, was charged by the authorities for fighting for the rights of lost-land farmers in Fujin of Heilongjiang Province. Yang was arrested for initiating the campaign “Human Rights Come before the Olympics”

It is known that early January Wang Gui-Lin Fujin received a phone call from government officials who claimed to see him regarding land acquisition. As Wang Gui-Lin went to attend the appointment, public security seized him and took him away. Wang has been detained up till now. Gui-Lin Wang’s wife Sun Xu-Rong received notice from the Fujin Public Security Bureau two days ago that they would announce the penalty on Wang Gui-Lin on Tuesday, and asked family members to hire a lawyer, or their rights would be abstained.

Sun Xu-Rong told SOH reporters that the authority accused Wang Gui-Lin of disturbing public order, and has been holding him in custody at Fujin Prison. Monday morning she was allowed to pay a visit to her husband, and found that he is not in good health and has gotten very skinny. According to Wang Gui-Lin, he had been beaten by inmates. When he was informed that he would be sentenced, he was once in tears. Sun Xu-Rong said: ” He (Wang Gui-Lin) told me that inside the jail, he had been bullied and bashed up and did not wish to stay inside for even one day. In jail, they do not give him enough to eat. He has gone a lot skinnier. When I told him that he will be sentenced tomorrow, he was in tears.”

Sun Xu-Rong said that they could not afford hiring a lawyer. Once her husband is sentenced, their life would be in misery. She said: where could I have the money to hire a lawyer? I do not know how to cope with life (without him). I have two children. I do not even have any money for the children’s tuitions. I have ailments and cannot go to work. Now, we have nothing to sustain our life and the children can not go to school.”

Late last year, the rights representatives for 40,000 lost-land farmers in Fujin, Wang Gui-Lin and Yu Chang-Wu publicly issued a notice on overseas websites, claiming back their ownership of about 25,000 acres of land that had been forcibly seized by the government since 1994 at a low price in excuse of national infrastructure construction. Yu Chang-Wu was detained soon after the announcement, and had been sentenced for a two-year forced labour term on 17th January. Mr. Meng, an aid representative for Yu Chang Wu, believed that Wang Gui-Lin would face a similar fate as Yu Chang-Wu.

Mr. Meng said that because the authorities failed to find evidence to prosecute them, they want to seize them. ‘Reformation’ through forced hard labour has become a means other than punishment under the Criminal Code to suppress human rights activists. Mr. Meng said: To publish articles over the internet cannot constitute a crime. The authority will not want to release you. This is retaliation (by the authorities).
